These pictures give an idea of what our apartment looks like. We are getting settled in and our apartment will be adequate for our needs. We expect to be quite comfortable this summer. We drive 12 miles North or South to shop for food. Nauvoo only has about 1,000 residents. It has several shops but the only grocery store which closed about a year ago because of slow business in the winter months. As you can see from the pictures there is a lot of open ground where in the 1840's all space was used for houses to make Nauvoo the largest city in the state. The city has never recovered since the saints were driven out. That is also true for Palmyra, Kirkland, Independence, Far West and Adam-Ondi-Ahman.

Our apartment is on the second floor and includes the three windows on the left. There are four apartments in the building. We love our neighbors! It is located on Munson street between Hyde and Partridge streets and is a very short drive from the temple. When we pulled up to the front of the building there were several of the neighbors who happened to be in front of our apartment. Everyone pitched in and our car was unloaded in less than 10 minutes, and let me just say that it was so full we could barely see out the rear window. We felt welcomed and loved immediately.
Close up view of the front door in to the stairs. |

This picture was taken in Iowa City near our hotel as we loaded up the last day before we drove to Nauvoo. It shows how much stuff we had stuffed into our little Prius.

The view looking to the North showing where we park our car. The weather is still quite cool but there are a lot of flowering trees with beautiful blossoms. Spring is much slower coming here than it was in Seattle.

If you stand directly in front of our walkway this is the view looking west down Munson. The streets are very narrow in Nauvoo, just barely wide enough to be able to pass a car coming in the opposite direction. Most of the missionaries have to park behind the apartments

Our kitchen and dining room looking West. There is a lot of storage space in the kitchen and is quite well furnished.

Our bedroom looking West. The bed is nice since it is king sized, but the mattress is quite firm. Our backs are still adjusting. The Sunsets are really beautiful here. One of the summer shows is called, "Sunset on the Mississippi".

Short hall leading to the bathroom and shared laundry room looking East.
This is Norm busy at work on this blog. We are still going through the learning curve of writing a blog. It may be a little rough in places, but we are thankful to have a place to record and share our memories of this mission.
